WRT54G
Hey, I essentially 'bricked' my router during a failed upgrade.
I've been able to ping it by changing my netword card settings to a static ip of 192.168.1.2
I have been able to tftp a <firmware version>.bin to the router, but it won't let me access
It says I should be able to download a automatic firmware upgrade .exe from linksys - but I can only find the .bin which I can't get to work
Any ideas?

Re: WRT54G
You can't get into the router at all?
Stupid question first, have you held the reset button in, which 'should' restore to factory settings but which doesn't reset firmware? As i found out myself when using some homebrew firmware to get my PSP working with it.

Re: WRT54G
Yeah, I tried all the resetting stuff first - I've followed the guide and can ping the router when I assign a static IP adress.
I've tftp'ed the firmware to the router, and it says sucessfully uploaded - but then I still can't access the router - so I have no idea what it's done.

Re: WRT54G
Could i ask which firmware version you uploaded so i don't attempt to find a link to one you've already tried?

Re: WRT54G
heh, not too sure I went on the linksys download site, and chose the firmware for the wrt54g version2.2
The filename is wrt54g_4.30.5_US_code.bin

Re: WRT54G
I'm sure you are very intelligent but i do have another stupid question only because i don't know your level of knowledge!
I only ask because the hard reset did work for me when i messed around with firmware. After you held the reset button and went to log into the router, you left the username blank and put the password in as admin? Someone i knew previously had forgotten he had the password stored and that they would have to manually change it after reseting.
Sorry i know it's a dumb one but i just want to rule the last dumb one out before i go on a hunt!

Re: WRT54G
lol, when I tried to log in the prompt didn't even come up - I'm assuming this is because the firmware has been flashed?

Re: WRT54G
That also happened to me and for some reason the logon window didn't come up with explorer but it did with firefox (i don't have the level of knowldge to know why that would happen, but it did).
Does it say something like unauthorized in the browser?

Re: WRT54G
I'm off to bed mate, but i will check back tomorrow to see if anyone else managed to help or if i have thought of anything else to try, just one final thought before i do go tho... Normally you would type into a browser: http://192.168.1.1 to get the login screen. Are you typing this, did you change the IPs about or did the firmware state that it would do anything like change the default IP? Just a suggestion as to why the login might not be coming up.
Laters.

Re: WRT54G
Thanks for the help
Yeah I enter that in the adress bar to no avail. I keep trying to upload firmware to the router and it keeps saying successfully uploaded, but it doesn't do anything :/
I just tried tftp -i 192.168.1.1 <filepath>.bin .bin (double .bin)
and it said 'invalid password for server' ?
