Wireless network repeatedly disconnecting

My Dad's wireless network consists of a Centrino laptop and a Desktop with a Belkin router/card combo.

The router is downstairs for the Xbox 360 which works fine as it is wired.

However, although the laptop (which is next to the desktop) has a constant green/excellent signal and never disconnects, the PC reularly alternates from green signal to no network connectivity at all, to limited network connectivity.

The signal is passing 20 feet through a ceiling and as I pointed out before, the laptop has a perfect signal and the desktop has a perfect signal when connected.

Moving the router upstairs solves this problem which suggests a distance problem, but why the green signal when things are ok?

the one we have is the 2410 but its the same almost to the 2414.

We had wireless working last night but I have more ram coming another 512meg from crucial.

Nature of the beast, if you've got a dog make him/her wet and stick the dog between your laptop and the wireless router, you'll get no signal lmao. You could try a large attena, but probably won't work either. I'm afraid you'll have to experiment and find the sweet spot in the house for your wireless, or indeed the pc. Not all it is cracked up to be, but I love me cables

I think its been reported on here before,but a good way of extending your wireless signal is to place a small empty pringles tin over the aerial on the router.

Cordless Phones also cause this.Especially if the base station is located near to the PC.

Also Solidly Built Houses,Children,Mobile Phones,Wet Dogs(as already mentioned), Local Radio Enthusiasts, A myriad of wireless devices and atmospheric pressure.

Are you hiding the ssid?
I found recently that if you do hide SSID, it can cause intermittent connectivity problems. I had to wave my laptop around infront of the wireless adapter to make it work.

if you are not hiding ssid... err....try empty pringles can, i guess?
