Smile Redirection Using FireFox

Is anyone else having the same problem with FireFox...if you open your browser with the address of www.google.com you are redirected to www.google.de ---which I presume is the german site of google ?

I can still use the search engine but just wondering in case I have something wrong with my computer or it is being tampered with

Have you installed google toolbar at all?? If so check your settings for that, also run a spyware, adware and virus scan just in case.

Re: Redirection Using FireFox

If you access the internet (like I do on my work connection) through a managed leased line to Germany then this will happen.
Likewise if you use a proxy service in Germany.
Is this on your home connection or at work?

Just open a DOS command prompt and see where a "tracert www.google.com" travels.

Re: Redirection Using FireFox

Similar thing with www.multimap.co.uk - my work proxy used be in Germany, but recently has moved to the US, so I always get presented with map of the US

As Jon says - all down to proxies!

Re: Redirection Using FireFox

As a work around go to "Add Search Engine" and add a UK version of the Google engine. Then do your search from the search box, making Google.co.uk the top entry with this if you want...
