Re: I want to connect my friend to my wireless router

Try it and see if there is a signal detectable or not. Before you start spending on trying to boost.

If you are after wireless sharing for your own network fine, but be aware sharing your internet connection would be against the terms of service of most ISPs.

Re: I want to connect my friend to my wireless router

Get this...

Bought one from that guy to boost my wireless signal in a specific direction (i.e. through two thick walls to my 360).

Worked a treat and cheap as chips too.

He has others that arent buy it now - if your prepared to wait you might pick it up even cheaper - i did.

Edit: I have a Linksys WAG354g BTW with an RP-SMA Connector.

Re: I want to connect my friend to my wireless router

Yup,but its huge and will broadcast your wireless signal out over your whole neighbourhood.

The one i showed will direct the beam in one direction - i.e. your mates house.

do like rob said, 250ft isnt that far away.

i cant find the s version, but most APs can do upto a 1000 feet outside so if your AP and his wireless card are both near the window and line of sight, then you should be ok.

the extra 3rd party arials are ok and about 3db means about double your strengh and those directional arials look ok the for the job, just like any other directional arial, but might not be needed exept to increase the connection/through-put speed.

LOL yea that Yagi (basicly a directional TV like arial) in a tube
will be great for people 5 miles down the road in that direction, especially if you mount it high on the roof.

its alway good to get your AP and arials as high as you can and line of sight for longer range.

do you like Pringles ?

take a look here
http://www.3nw.com/pda/wireless/wi_f...gi_antenna.htm
http://www.wifi-base.com/content/view/43/1/
there are loads of DIY arials out there, the biggest problem is getting hold of the little end connectors
to make 2, one for both your locations ends.

iv seen/heard people do 30 miles with the right directional DIY(&comercial) arials yagi &/or parbolic (or modifyed sky parabolic sat arials with mini yagi as collector (the bit on the stick pointing to the center of the dish) arials.
