Linksys wrt54gs dhcp or static ip?

hi

i have just installed a linksys wrt54gs wireless router (saturday), when i set it up via the cd i selected DHCP, all worked fine, computer and lappy on internet.

But i have lost my connection at least 5 times since installing router, i have to go thru the whole procedure of powering down router/modem etc.

Should i have selected static ip and filled in the fields required ?

or is there anything else i can do to stop losing my connection?

any advise would be much appreciated.

thanx

DHCP is the correct setting for a router on NTL.

When the connection is 'lost' can you still get to the router admin page? If so, can you ping out from the router to somewhere like www.bbc.co.uk? (The Linksys has a troubleshooting page that allows to test the connection)

You don't need the CD! Plug it all in together, switch on the lappy and off you go.

Sounds to me like you're experiencing WiFi interference - baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones... Other WiFi networks too - try switching from channel 1 to 6, or 6 to 11 (non overlapping frequencies).
