connect to modem through router

Hi Back when I had 1 PC in the house i could connect to my cable modem with 192.168.100.1 to reset it when it buggered up, the modem is in the loft and i was too lazy to go up 2 floors to get to it.
But ive got a router now and I have no idea how to connect to the modem as the IP address doesnt work anymore. I am guessing its to do with the router not knowing where my request is going.

can anyone help me out with this issue? how do i go through my router to connect to my modem on the other side

Many Thanks in advance

Re: connect to modem through router

you should still be able to connect to the modem on the same address....

have you got a proxy specified as this can prevent you getting to the modems config pages?

no proxy, its set as directly connected to the internet. i cant ping the address that i thought the modem was either and theres no other settings in the router page that I have changed.

Can you ping one of the IPs in my signature at all (from the supposed disconnected PC) - chop off the info after the : tho, they're port numbers ?

Re: connect to modem through router

i can ping all those servers, theres no problem with the PC itself connecting to anything, i just cannot connect to the cable modem from any pc on my network.

are there any other IP addresses that the modem could be using apart from 192.168.100.1 ?

Re: connect to modem through router

Which router and which modem are you using. Are they both on the same IP range i.e. 192.168.100.xxx? If so that could be an area of confusion messing up the DNS.

Re: connect to modem through router

im using a netgear 614v3

router ip is 192.168.0.1 and subnet of that is 255.255.255.0.
i have the silver NTL home modem type thing on my 10 meg.

i might try setting up the lan to use the private 10.x.x.x ip address to see if that makes any diffeence
