Ethernet cable has a maximum distance of around 100m, plenty far enough for the average house.
Wireless manufacturer's will claim 100m, 200m. But thats, with no walls or other obstructions in the line of sight. As you get close to the limit the connection speed you can achieve will drop
Problems with interference, and poor connection will often be reduced by moving the wireless setup closer, but not necessarily.
