Re: getting rid of old pcs
If its a machine that is still fine for E-mailing and Internet, then see if there are any charity organisations or Recycle-A-PC type of shops in your area where they will gladly take them off you.
However if it is a really old machine that is more likely to electrocute you if you switch it on, chop off the plug and take it to your local city tip to be destroyed.
PS: If you have anything sensitive on the hard drive, do a full format before donating the PC.

Re: getting rid of old pcs
Look for a charity shop in your area, if the PC is working then fully format it and see if they would like it.

Ah yes, Sorry I was on another planet and imagined it was a moulded lead into the back for some reason.
I normally chop off plugs off any equipment I'm throwing away if it is faulty to avoid anyone deciding to plug it in and electrocuting themselves.
