How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
Hi all,
I would like total anonymity from ntl not becuase I visit porn or anything. I just dont want ntl keeping records of all my net activity for reasons I cannot go in to.
How do I do this?
Is it through using proxies that are NOT controlled by ntl? If so what proxy to use?
ultimate anonymity service here - http://www.ultimate-anonymity.com/signup.htm looks ideal and is only a one off fee of £30!
Anyone use that? Could I use firefox browser through it?
What are the pro's and cons of it?
Thanks.

Pro's - if it works, anonnymous web browsing
Con's - um $30.
Unless you are breaking the law with your web browsing then they a pointless waste of money IMO ............

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
yeah but what is the technicalities behind it?
is it just a case of browising through a proxy not controlled by ntl to attain anonymity?

There is millions of people who use NTL unless you do something to make yourself stand out like leeching hundreds of GB's, then you won't have anyone watching you.

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
lets just say I look at information certain elements in the government would prefer the people to remain ignorant about.
nothing illegal about the nature of the information althought with all this new freedom eroding legislation being shuffled through under the justification of "anti-terrorism", a lot of the information I look at can now be classed under their definition of "terrorist activites" but I'll tell you one thing, ANYTHING nowadays can potentially come under the THEIR definition of terrorist.
So basically, I want to ensure that I do not get in to legal trouble for looking at information that is utterly harmless yet can potentially come under anti terror laws - becuase it's meant to be that way becuase they want a police state.
Do you understand me?
Some examples of information that can now come under the definition of "terrorist activiteis"...
http://www.threeworldwars.com/index.html
http://s13.invisionfree.com/THE_UNHIVED_MIND/
www.rinf.com
... basically anything that presents a view that contradicts the "official line".
Like I said, harmless, and I do not want to potentially get in trouble for viewing it.

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
Well looking at your reasons posted above, and the content of materials that you yourself have admitted could be deemed of a 'terrorist nature' ( I didn't click a link, in case, you know, a knock at the door ) I don't think it would be wise for anyone to tell you how or if it could be done, these are dangerous times we live in and these measures are in place to try and protect us, maybe, just maybe if you had a few more than your 17 posts, and we knew you a bit better from your time here, but who knows

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
Somehow I think that as long as IP packets are passing through NTL's network then anything you look can be traced and recorded.
Encrypted, Anonymised etc, no barrier, i'm sure GCHQ, MI5, MI6 etc have the technology to "undo" these things if they need to.
Also as has been said before, i'm sure there's more people than you looking at such material, and also some poeple looking at material a lot worse.

Correct. In this day and age there is NO such thing as total anonymity. If it can be passed from 1 router to another it can be read. The Government can get any information they want if they need it. A site that charges $30.00 to protect you will be no good if the full weight of GCHQ and other sections of the intelligence dept's decided they want to know what you are doing.

I don't think so. Why do I have to allow Magic Latern or Carnivore spying on me or anyone else? Why Mcafee and Symantec agree not to detect FBI spyware? Will Mcafee and Symantec agree to cover up, if the French Intelligence service developed similar spyware?
Is FBI spyware good and cydoor bad?

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
Would you rather people be allowed to freely distribute information that can be used to create weapons or cause massive loss of life?
There will always be a need to monitor information being passed around the internet as long as there are people passing bomb instructions, chemical weapons information, diagrams, blueprints etc around.
I personally think anyone that decries the use of keyword scanning on email or internet traffic should wake up and smell the reality of the world we now live in.

Re: How to achieve anonymity from ntl?
If leet haxors cannot decrypt methods of encrypting, I don't see why any given agency can when its just a game of numbers and letters. It isn't like using the friggin enigma.
