Slow wireless help
Im on the NTL 10mb package and when i use my internet connection via the wired LAN ports on my router i get a steady 1mb/sec. When i use wireless i get anything from 500kb/s - 700kb/s max. I've tried 3 different routers, 3 different wireless adapters and also tried every channel from 1 -11. No joy. Any ideas welcome !!

Re: Slow wireless help
Are you powering everything off, before you change the adapters and routers. You need to disconnect the modem, and power it on FIRST before you do anything else

Re: Slow wireless help
What wireless equipment is in use currently and what signal strength do you receive?

Re: Slow wireless help
At the moment i'm using a linksys wrt54gs and my onboard intel wirless pro 2200GB. During the past 2 days, i've tried a belkin 7230 and a belkin 7231 router. Then a belkin 7051 usb adapter and a linksys wusb54gs. No matter what combination i tried, the kit made no difference at all. If i connect a cable to the lan ports on any of the routers then i get the full 1mb/s download speed so i don't think its a HW fault. I must be missing something.....

Re: Slow wireless help
I would ignore USB wireless adaptors for now to rule out a problem with the USB side of things. Did you try buying a card and adpator that are specifically designed to work together?

Re: Slow wireless help
In the USA, Belkin are offering refunds for slow throughput on some of their wireless kit! I don't know if this is connected to your problem.

Re: Slow wireless help
Update - This problem ONLY occurs in Windows XP. I just installed Suse on one of the PC's which had the problem and that works perfectly. Boot the same PC back into windows....problem starts.

Re: Slow wireless help
hi dayloon,
I have EXACTLY the same issue, plugged direct into the router i get 1.2mbs, over wireless it drops down to about 500kbs even with an excelent signal strength. I have tried my inbuilt broadcom and a pcmcia netgear wireless card connecting to a linksys and a belkin wireless router, no combination made any real diffrence. having read this thread i tried suse, guess what, full speeds!? Something with windows then? Im running XP Pro, SP2 and patched up to jan06, i have removed the windows firewall and am just using the one on my router. It must be some setting somewhere, i shall continue to investigate but does anyone else have any ideas??

Re: Slow wireless help
hi, here is a fix for ur slow speeds when using wireless. i was having ur problem, full 10mb d\l speeds when using the lan ports, 400-700k d\l when using wirelessG, this is on a linksys router, but it will work whatever router u use. this fix is for WinXP, linux as u have seen, does not suffer from the problem. download DRTCP, open it and on the settings page, at the bottom, select ur wireless adapter from the drop down menu. use the following settings for the rest:
TCP Recieve window: 64240
Window scaling: yes
Time stamping: no
Selective acks: yes
MTU discovery: yes
MTU: 1500 (this is the MTU box just to the right of ur adapter name)
click 'save'.
go to a good d\l site, where u know u should get max d\l speeds.
ur speed will be around 0.98MB - 1.12MB \s.
