Only getting 5MB due to Router
I was upgraded today automatically to 10mb (Thanks NTL!)
I've done some speedtests and troubleshooting, and am only getting 5mb when
the router is in the loop. I do get almost 10mb when the modem is directly connected to my PC.
The router is a Linksys BEFW11S4. Is this capable of delivering 10mb, or do I need to change it ?
If it is capable of delivering 10mb, how do I change the configuration ?
I've been into the router controls and cannot see anything that could be
adjusted or changed.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you alter the speed/duplex on the Eth port ?

Re: Only getting 5MB due to Router
There does n't appear to be that option on the Router. I do have a workaround, which means swapping routers with my BT BB, as that can only go to 512kb.

Re: Only getting 5MB due to Router
Done a bit of searching and apparently a lot of Linksys routers don't support 100mb on the WAN port. Personally i swear by Belkin, work perfectly, £55 in staples for a 54g one

Also try this:
From a forum:
It is an MTU issue. I had to change mine from AUTO to 1485. Works fast now.

Re: Only getting 5MB due to Router
I've read the manual again, and all it states is 10mb Wan. It talks about half and full duplex on the Switch side, not the Wan side.
Looks like the only option is to swap it to my BT line, and install my WRT54G onto the NTL one.

Re: Only getting 5MB due to Router
The BEFW11S4 is a design which must be more then 5 years old. Its WAN port is fixed to 10Mbpbs half-duplex, and cannot be configured otherwise. Its internal components are unlikely to be able to shift 10Mbps however good the WAN port might be. To realise 10Mbps throughput, none of the Linksys BEFxxx range are going to deliver. You need to be looking at the Linksys WRTxxx range for those sorts of speeds.

Same here, when the router is not in the loop I get full speeds, when it's in the loop my speed drops like hell.
I have the same modem as you.

Re: Only getting 5MB due to Router
Mine is a V1, purchased in 2002 in the US. It clearly cannot do the required speeds. Reading the troubleshooting section of the manual confirms the
WAN is 10MB, and it talks about not needing to be better as Internet speeds
do not require it.
