Smile PC Connection?

I do not have a terrestrial ariel only cable.
I have a s.t.b. in my living room and a pc with cable modem in my study.
If I got a second s.t.b could I view digital cable on my pc.
If so how would I do it?
thanks

Re: PC Connection?

Erm get it via NTL officially and they will install it for you but you may not need a second STB to be able to view your feed on your PC. You might be able to split the feed and connect it that way.
NTL won't install a connection to a PC though, you would still have to do that bit so you may want to ask about splitting the feed correctly. Asking in the NTL tv area or the computing area might be better than posting here

Re: PC Connection?

Thanks Paul,
I intended asking NTL to install a second set top box in place of the modem but how do I connect it to the pc and view through the pc intead of a tv?
Would it be through a RF lead into a vedio card?

Re: PC Connection?

Ask NTL if the can supply an RF output lead (read once on these boards somewhere that this can be done) if so, buying a tv card to go into PC on a spare PCI socket will work.
PC world offer these:

Re: PC Connection?

You don't have to use RF. I connect up my Pc with composite and a scart adaptor.

Take a trip to Maplin for all the Connectors you may need.

I have a video card which supports composite and sVideo ViVo (video in video out). You can buy cheap PCl TV cards which support composite.

Seconded. A composite video or s-video input will get you a better quality picture than rf. The advantage of an rf signal going into a tuner is that you can change channels on the PC. However, digital STBs often only provide whatever channel they're tuned to on the rf output, so you can't tune for other channels anyway.

However, don't forget that with cards that have no tuner and only accept video inputs (VIVO cards), you also have to connect the audio leads to your sound card input.
