Re: Should ntl:world offer reverse-dns ?

I voted "YES - FREE", but would pay a SMALL fee - My main concern would be "Could they actually provide the service", with NTL's track record we'd have DNS issues all over!!!

Re: Should ntl:world offer reverse-dns ?

ummm its a residential service not a business service so my answer would be no.

If all you want to do is run an email/web server then its relatively easy to point your domian name at your current IP. Admittedly the reverse DNS will not match the forward dns but I've yet to hit any problems becuase of that.

Code:
[fraz@thomas fraz]$ host smartowner.co.uk
smartowner.co.uk has address 81.106.249.74
[fraz@thomas fraz]$ host 81.106.249.74
74.249.106.81.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer cpc4-cdif1-6-0-cust74.cdif.cable.ntl.com.

yes you have that reason, my reason is "my host name is too long" for those that use irc, its nice to have a funny host name

Re: Should ntl:world offer reverse-dns ?

It wouldn't be overly difficult for ntl to provide http://username.ntlworld.com or http://username.ntlhome.com but this would encourage unwanted traffic on the network.

As for your questionaire, I have voted no. If you are prepared to pay a small fee to ntl for a domain name, why not pay the small fee to purchase the domain name you want?
Failing that, go for one of the many free forwarding services.

I voted yes - free...

It would be a usefull feature - but given NTL's recent DNS issues I certainly would not pay for it...
