Re: netgear problems

ok first of all clarify a little. You have set up a network on a Netgear wireless router and your pc will not connect (to the net I take it) unless your plug a network cable in.Into what? into the router ie you were trying to connect wireless before or into the modem ie the router isnt working full stop??

Re: netgear problems

ok firstly i believe theres something wrong with my network to start off with as before i even set up the wireless router tonight i could connect to the net but not to msn mesenger for some reason....

tonight ive set up the wirless router to my laptop (its a dell) it completed the install etc and said it was fine. which it is accoring to my laptop tray icon thing it says im connected. yet when i go to the internet it says page cannot be diisplayed i tried restarting etc but it still didnt work. i think the whole installation went through as i started playing with the security settings. its just for some reason my network isnt allowing me to see the net unless i discount the router and reconect with the network cable. which again im faced with the problem i still cant connect to msn messenger!!! argh!

please help!!

Firewall settings? (software and router)

....and if that fails then i would reinstall your laptops wireless drivers...I had this problem and reinstalling the driver did the trick (as did tinkering with the firewall permissions the time before)

Re: netgear problems

yeah but i really need msn to work - infact i do all of my business through it its pointless me having a computer if i dont have msn messenger....

ive got zone alarm on as firewall - i dont believe its the laptop as its saying the wireless thing is working. and my computers like two days old! i really do think its either zone alarm, which ive now turned off to test or the router, im unsure how you disable that???

so do i now disconnect everything turn on the modem, then the router, then the laptop?

Re: netgear problems

right ive just tried disableling zone alarm still nothing...

it cant be to do with the wireless drivers as msn would work now when i have the etherent plugged into the modem. it must be a general network problem surely?

anyone???

Re: netgear problems

uninstall zonealarm and make sure the windows firewall is off just to test.Unplug modem and router and turn off pc.plug modem in and wait till fully connected then plug router in give it a min to settle, reboot pc and test.
