STB or SACM
Set Top Box ... or Stand Alone Cable Modem.
Come on then which one, and which is better.
Me, I'm on STB, and not been a prob.

Re: STB or SACM
I've always been on STB but do notice that if im downloading or uploading at a fast rate i can often either not change channel or there is a significant delay.
I often lose channels too and have to reboot the STB., Never ever rebooted the STB prior to broadband (not sure if this is linked)

Re: STB or SACM
I'm on SACM and I haven't experienced any problems.
Never had BB through STB so I can't really comment on that side.

This is from memory as im at work, 4000 series cant be sure but it think its a 4001. Never used to hapeen before CR3 when i had a lovely 1000 series, but an NTL eng swapped it out at about the same time as CR3 only to find i had a slammer virus and it was nothing to do with the STB

Re: STB or SACM
Killed one STB after nearly 2 yrs with little problems until it was dieing 2nd STB was exchanged after 4months of never having to reboot or ever being disconnected. Now using a SACM for the last few days but all seems well. No difference in speeds etc just space it takes up on the computer desk.
1mb
only downside is they have made it so you can't run MRTG to monitor the downloads unlike Telewest who allow you to do that.

Re: STB or SACM
Always had a SACM, Terayon Terajet for about 18 months and when it died off recently got a ntlhome 100 instead. Never had any significant probs, but a friend down the road in a different franchise area has her broadband thru STB and had no end of hell getting it to work properly.
