Setting up WGR614 wireless router

Just bought one of these (v6 if that makes any difference )

I'm going to connect it wired to my main PC, then once I've got that working stick a wireless card (WG311 v3) into my other PC and have my own little network

I've downloaded the manual and the setup looks seriously scary to me !!

So: any advice from anyone who's used this box before on how to go about setting it up with my NTL BB ? Are there any options that aren't blindingly obvious that I need to know about ?

And most of all - if it all goes pear shaped and doesn't work, will I have to do anything to get my ordinary cable modem to pc connection back ??

Thanks

Setting up wired, if you have a Cable Modem is a breeze, if you have a Set top box it is a little more complex as you need to clone the mac address of the registered PC onto the router.

Re: Setting up WGR614 wireless router

Thanks all

I'll let you know how I get on when I get a chance to install the router.

Oh, and yes: I've got a cable modem, not a set top box.

Cheers Rammy

Haven't taken it out of the box yet - if I get any problems, I'll come squaling - assuming I can get on the net of course

Only just got the stuff from Parcelfarce

I'll probably try to connect it all up on Saturday - if it all goes quiet then, you know I've got 'issues'

Re: Setting up WGR614 wireless router

Well, I've set up the wired part to my main PC, and all seems to be working fine (certainly no problems with Outlook Express & FF - haven't tried anything complex like eDonkey yet though).

When I'm happy it all works I'll set up the wireless card in the other PC & see if that works too

Incidentally, I've changed the admin password & turned on WEP and generated some passkeys - doesn't seem to do anything but I assume I'll find out what those are all about when I try to link the other PC

In the meantime is there anyway of finding out what wireless connections have been made so far and to which PC? Hopefully the current answer is 'none'

Re: Setting up WGR614 wireless router

And now I've got the wireless card set up on the other PC and successfully sharing the internet connection

Next task is to work out how to set up a network so I can share files between the 2 PCs - that's next weekend's job, I think
