Re: connection keeps droppig out, help.
Hi my BY cable has been doing this aswell for about 2 weeks.
At first it only happened when i was away from PC not always just now and again, id come bak and my net was off tho all lights on modem working. It would only start to work again once i unpluged and re pluged the Modem power cable.
Was looking at my network card settings last night after it happened again and saw an option for "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" and it was checked - Ahh i thought thats gotta be the problem im away and the pc is turning off the network card.
But today at roughly 7.30pm my net stopped while i was actually using it and now im baffled. Once again it wouldnt work untill the modem power cable was unpluged and re pluged in.
Any Ideas ??

Re: connection keeps dropping out, help.
i have corrected the typo in the thread title for you
What type of cable modem do you have?
When your connection drops does your pc have an ip address starting 192, 169, or something else?

Re: connection keeps dropping out, help.
Been waiting for connection to drop since last post and it just did it again whilst i was away from computer for 10 min
When Connected IP = 80.192.178.210
Subnet Mask = 255.255.248.0
When Drops IP = 80.192.178.136
Subnet Mask = 255.255.248.0
Thats why i thought they where the same because at quick glance they almost are.
Any Ideas as to what could make my ip suddenly change like that ???

Re: connection keeps dropping out, help.
Downstream Status Operational
Channel ID 0
Downstream Frequency 331000000 Hz
Modulation QAM64
Bit Rate 1024000 bps
Power Level -8.67 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio 30 dB
Upstream Status Operational
Channel ID 1
Upstream Frequency 33680000 Hz
Bit Rate 128000 bps
Power Level 45.00 dBmV
Spoke to BY support last night and they said my modem is ok and that it is my pc thats the prob - made me delete cookies and change security settings in IE options as cookies can sometimes make the IP change - Admittedly Trusted & insecure sites tabs for some reason where set to Custom so re-set them to default settings (tho i have no idea why they had changed)
restarted PC thinking that must have been the prob everything should work now OMG what a fool i am. 10 min Later net drops again
So then i decided that as my Modem is plugged into the onboard LAN port and my son's is plugged into the PCI network card that id change them arround so now the Modem is in the PCI Card and the home network is in the Mobo.
Well hasnt droped since changed card the modem plugged into (about 20hrs) so im hopeing it has sorted the problem.
Even if it has tho why would the network drop using onboard lan and not on a PCI card ?

If your internet goes off and the send/receive modem lights flash, it has nothing to do with your stuff, the problem is from the modem back to TW
