Router problem?
Hi all, I have installed my wireless router (Kcorp KLG-575 gold), and am sharing the 2mb NTL connection between my laptop and my main pc.
All has been working fine until monday night, when the LAN connection to the main pc started dropping out, then re-connecting within a few seconds.
If i remove the router from the equation, it does not "seem" to drop out, also, the wireless connection has never dropped, even when working at the same time as the main pc.
Ive done a full format of the main pc, but its still happening and is very random. I have also re set the router (twice) and re booted the modem (x times).
Any thoughts? its soooooooo annoying!! lol
Thanks

Re: Router problem?
When you first installed the router did you configure it (passwords SSID etc)
If not do it now, as sombody may be able to get in to you system.
As regards to your problem. I've only had wireless dropping a connection (possibly due to cordless phones).

Re: Router problem?
Yes mate Im using SSID (hidden) and a 128bit WEP key.
I've just noticed a post in the NTL BB section with the exact same issue, no resolution yet though.

Re: Router problem?
Is it more stable if SSID is left on?

Re: Router problem?
Is there a firmware upgrade for your router? My Linksys used to throw a wobbly until I put in new firmware.

Re: Router problem?
Just to advise folk that although some people recommend disabling SSID and trying to hide your network there a load more who disagree and say that
a) It adds no security - the SSID is still broadcast as part of certain packets and network sniffers such as NetStumbler(?) can easily find it.
b) If you broadcast the SSID (but also apply appropriate security), your neighbours will easily see which channel you are on and will avoid that number!
c) Not broadcasting the SSID breaks the standard and some PC drivers/ network monitors will drop the connection and try to connect to a neighbour/ alternative signal.
