ADVENT T9 PC's

Just thought it might be worth mentioning that I've had a problem with my PC which is an ADVENT T9. Was forced to do a Full System Restore using their supplied disk. Once the restore was complete it asked for another disk, Update Disc, which was not included in the box. No having this disc, my PC has certain drivers missing namely for the Network card and wireless card. Phoned their support and I have had to purchase the update disc for £6.00
If anybody else has an Advent PC make sure you have the update disc's, if not you can get them from http://www.dsgrecovery.co.uk

I'm a bit miffed that the System Recovery Disc I have does not include all software/drivers for the PC. Seems a way of Dixons getting extra cash out of you for nowt!

Re: ADVENT T9 PC's

The update disc arrived, there's 3 of 'em (disc 1 0f 3 etc) this morning. Hope this fixes the issue's relating to network card, wireless card and other software that was missing (Nero etc) from the system restore disc. Can't help feeling though, that there's more problems looming. Have to wait and see.

Re: ADVENT T9 PC's

Couldn't you just have downloaded the missing drivers. I know I had to do that with a laptop I bought from Dixons

Re: ADVENT T9 PC's

No you can't, as the machines use OEM MSI boards and you can't get all the drivers from their website. However, usually unless you have had a drive replacement you shouldn't need the update disks as the drivers can be installed after a recovery from c:\Applications\Drivers. But this does not always work. You should have been able to pop into your local store and got a technician to copy the disks for you, we would!

Surely an OEM board is one that we could say order online from a place like Overclockers/Ebuyer etc - with readily available drivers?

At least it's not a PB, now they are a pain.

surely that would be difficult without the network card drivers

Not really, as these are usually MSI manufactured, Trigem modified. Don't ask why but we've tried the 'find the drives on the net' approach. You can get them, but it's a lot of hassle and takes multiple attempts with drivers that look like they may work before you get the right one! Yet another reson why I would never buy a prebuilt PC.
However, I neglected to mention: www.pcservicecall.co.uk/layout.aspx?ID={685bbe49-c857-4b23-b954-f8693cee0c1a}&CatID={aa04d682-acbf-4f00-be78-350a8371098b}
Sorry!

Re: ADVENT T9 PC's

Everything working fine including all software. Not sure why my PC had a fatal error in the first place the system restore disc did not give me the option of finding and fixing the corrupt windows files - had no option but a full wipe of the disc and that's when I discovered that I needed the update disc's that were not included with the system restore disc. A complete pain in the backside. Apart from that I'm happy with the Advent PC i've got.

Is that not a "Non-Destructive Recovery"?
