BBC opens TV archive to remixers

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/4225914.stm

Quote:
The BBC has released the first TV clips from its archive onto the internet for people to "rip, mix and share".

Almost 100 clips, from shows such as Walking With Beasts and Tomorrow's World, are for the UK public to use for free in their own creative works

The BBC hopes to foster innovation by letting anyone re-use its material for personal and educational purposes under the Creative Archive Licence.

Now I checked and I still miss this sort of thing.

Even the BBC can't get it's news out ahead of the rivals.Anyway no one replied to that announcement did they so I'm ahead already.

One was "Tour of Duty" which I think was an ITV series. The other was a BBC series called "Johnny Jarvis". I saw an old VHS copy of an episode of "Tour" on ebay a while back, but it was silly money and I don't have a VCR! I would probably buy a VHS copy at the right price and get it put on DVD though.

Hmm, thanks for the info, I remember it was a pretty good series.

Also I remember Johnny Jarvis because it had a catchy theme tune played on the flute

Was Tour of Duty the show set during the Vietnam war, that used Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones as its theme tune?

Tour was indeed a superb series, and yes it was the one with Paint It Black as the theme tune.

My gripe with it was that the station planners would mess around with the timing every week. It would be on at, say 11 p.m., then the following week 12.30 a.m., then it would miss a week, then bring it back a week later at about 3 a.m., after "The Hit Man And Her". (Awful Pete Waterman thing, only improved by seeing a then very fit Machaela Strachan in skimpy outfits!).

Thanks for that, I shall try and organise seeing it and hopefully recording it.

I read somewhere that the BBC had destroyed the master tapes of a load of old TV series, without making copies, and this was one of them...

You can get all 3 seasons of Tour Of Duty on DVD from Amazon UK, as well eBay now.

Re: BBC opens TV archive to remixers

For a very long time Bravo was showing Tour of Duty. Then Ntl dropped Bravo for a while before getting Bravo back.In the meantime they stopped showing all the older US blow everything up in sight shows like this.Frankly I'm finding Bravo rather boring these days. Not enough guys with muscles.

Mind practically all TV is boring to me these days..I was looking through the list of the Extra 11 channels we are getting.Frankly they can throw them all back as far as I'm concerned.

Personally I think all the channels on DTV are in for a shock in this day and age of DVD's,computers, internet and all that entails in the world of home entertainment. And if the BEEB is going to do this I bet that ITV will follow suit as well.

So why not buy the DVDS and watch them at home at a time that suits you.
