Reality TV lowers the bar again
BBC
Quote:
A new reality television show in the Netherlands which sees a woman search for a sperm donor is in the running to be made into a full series.
I Want Your Child And Nothing Else is among five programmes vying for a run on Dutch cable channel Talpa.
Viewers will decide on Saturday night which show they want to see more of.
Other contenders include the efforts of five prostitutes to set up a business, while two people who have never met before will become engaged.
The pilot episode of the series featured the woman's appeal for a sperm donor and her desire to have children. Men are able to respond to the plea via e-mail.
The so-called "Sperm Show", if made into a full series, will conclude with the contestant's artificial insemination after she has chosen her donor.

Think that may be the sound of scraping of concrete underneath barrel Thankfully it's a set of pilots so hopefully someone somewhere will actuall decide that this sort of programming is absolutely rubbish.

Re: Reality TV lowers the bar again
Some people are so desperate to be on TV, and grab their 15 minutes of fame. Invariably all they get out of it is a few film premieres and invites to a couple of celeb parties... plus of course heaps of embarrassment and shame for their families and loved ones.

Re: Reality TV lowers the bar again
Whilst I was in France there was this reality TV where a girl had to get maried and persuade her parents she was getting married even though it was all fake. She didnt know her hubby to be was in fact an actor and it has torn the whole family apart as her own mother is wondering why on earth she is wanting to marry this man. eg. Becuase there is £20,000 prize if they can convince the family and get married.
Its maddness !!!
I often ask myself if in a few years time I will only watch DVD's and not TV channels at the rate TV is going down hill.

The way things are going, they will probably send people to a desert Island and viewers will have to vote which one they have to kill first.
Frightening thoughts !!!

Re: Reality TV lowers the bar again
First off, big reality TV hater here. The most pointless programming trend in the history of television...there isn't a single positive aspect in the whole genre.
That being said, I've learned to accept that it's part of the TV landscape (though it appears to be lessening a bit... ) And rarely do I see something on television that makes me so angry I want to do something about it. But "The Simple Life" is going too far.
The commercials I've seen for the new "Interns" season are un-****ing-believable. For those that haven't seen it, there is apparently an episode that revolves around these two bitches working in a funeral home. Did you read that? A FUNERAL HOME. The promotion shows them spilling cremated remains on the floor and attempting to scrape them back into an urn, dropping coffins and basically ****ing around with PEOPLE'S DEAD RELATIVES.
Who in their right mind would greenlight such a tasteless scenario for a reality show?
My grandfather recently passed away and it was hard enough dealing with all the emotions that accompany a funeral. I would have sued everyone in sight if that kind of **** had gone on with my family. It's not right and it shouldn't be encouraged.
I'll be voicing my displeasure to Fox (not that it will do any good...they'll probably cancel Arrested Development just to spite me) but I encourage everyone to do the same.
I can't believe we've sunk this low...

Re: Reality TV lowers the bar again
I'm with kookook on The Simple Life.... I can't stand watching it. The only redeeming feature of the show is that whenever I've had the misfortune to watch it, it reminds me that although I'm not as rich as either Richie or Hilton, I'm nowhere near as brain-dead either.

Re: Reality TV lowers the bar again
Take a bunch of assorted misfits, put them in an entirely artificial situation, and call it reality TV.
