Cancelling TV/Phone.

Could someone please answer me this question as I don't want to call CS until my mind is made up?

I currently have ntl: 2meg BB via a Samsung STB. No complaints, works great.
I also have the TV Family pack and telephone. The price for the TV and phone is now £30 per month.
I am thinking of cancelling the TV and Phone (going back to BT). I now have Freeview which I am more than happy with and cannot remember the last time I watched anything on ntl:

Is it possible to cancel TV and phone but keep BB?

Would I have to change to a SACM or could I keep the STB? A only ask this to minimise the disruption and save taking time off work to have the STB recovered and a SACM installed.

Obvioulsy I would like to retain my telephone number as I did when I transfered from BT years ago.

What is the best way to go about it? Do I contact BT and say I want to return to them before I call ntl:? Or should I tell ntl: first?

Sound simple but it's bound to get cocked up somewhere along the line and leave me without phone and/or BB.

yes you can keep the BB without phone and TV... Sometimes you will be given a SACM, but i have also seen people who have the STB for just BB.

with regard to the number porting i have no idea!

I think you can keep your number, as for who you should tell first it depends on how they change your number over.

To be honest I would just cancel the TV and keep the BB and phone

Re: Cancelling TV/Phone.

I'm certain you can transfer your number over, works both ways, and yes you can go for BB only, depending on area if it's STB or SACM a slow call should maybe clear it up.

FWIW whilst you are paying your bill to NTL your phone number is your property. You need to get your BT line active, then inform them you are porting your "old" NTL number over to their network, they should contact NTL and advise them of the transfer request, they will then contact you regarding the transfer. At least this is the way a friend was advised to do it when he transferred his number. The reasoning being that there has to be an active line to attach the transferred number too. If there isn't then you risk the number either being suspended, or reallocated to someone else.

If you cancel your line with NTL, then your number shall be suspended and go into a pool of other suspended\cancelled numbers. Theorhetically, your phone number should be "cooled" (not the correct term, but I cannot recall what that one is ) for a period of time so that anyone calling it becomes aware that the number is no longer active. IIRC BT "cool" numbers for about 6 months before reallocating them, but NTL is probably different ~ it usually is

Regardless, install BT line advise them you want to transfer a phone number in and let them do the work or at least advise you of their procedure.

Oh if only the reality was as simple as that.

I am in a similar position to you wallace in regards to being subscribed to the 2mb BB (SACM for me tho) as well as the digital TV/Phone.

I have tried in vain to have my package reduced to BB only and as yet (almost 2 months down the line) i have had no joy whatsoever even tho ive been told that my package "will" be changed.

I hope you have more luck, if things keep going this way my next call will be a paclage change to get rid of everything.
