Are VM Throttling OVH Roubiax?

Morning,

My friend asked me to investigate why his downloads were slow. He gets around 2mbps on FTP and around 4-6MB/sec when he tries to download from his Kimsufi server, which happens to be based in RBX4.

His server has 100mbps upload and I can max out my FTTC on it so I know it's not the server. I can do speedtests of 74 all day long to all 3 of OVH's data centres. But when he tried all are well up to his 200 limit expect the Roubiax server on proof.ovh.net

Unfortunately speedtest.net confirms the same.

So here are his tests to the other 2 OVH data centres GRA and SGB

Both respectable for the 200 service.. But here's RBX

Speedtest.net backs this up..

Multi thread downloads suck..

Mine shows all is fine on FTTC

Hes asked if I can refer him to Sky for get FTTC and TV which I will do today - but really VM? sort it out. Not everyone uses OVH for dodgy stuff :/

Thanks in advance for any replies

When I hosted there I found I was limited by the FTP protocol and HTTP was much quicker. I still find this when hosted in Germany. I'm on BT FTTC now for the record so it wasn't just VM. This said, I found OVH to be slower than my current host in Germany despite their network being smaller than OVH's.

Hmm thanks for the reply.

I an on Infinity 2 and I thought I had sort of proved it was VM because they only seem to give low speeds when using his VM line and not mine.

It's bizarre but I believe he rang up and cancelled today. He uses this server for everything including sharing with his family.

Tell him to try http://www.hetzner.de/en which is what I use. It feels much quicker and cheaper, plus you can buy cheapo auction servers if the new ones don't tickle your fancy. Not quite as cheap as Kimsufi but not bad, and the support is excellent.

FYI I don't work for them, I just like them

Thanks I will do - however if he moves to BT or Sky he won't need to worry about it. However I will check them out as I need a server so thanks

Just picked up a server with 7 1.5TB for 46 euros a month, nice one
