Could you live without your sky or virgin box?

Just had last few days, where I didn't have my functionality of the sky box (new box, faulty, yada yada, got replaced)

But I did find life without instant rewind, on demand, recording to be a scary world.

I had to make sure I was sitting and ready for shows when they broadcast, and that was hard, and back in time after commercials. To extent i gave up, just caught a couple of things.

Yet only 5 years or so, would not have been affected as much...now...I could live without, but it would be a boring place

Maybe I'm a tv addict (but not willing to do the 12-step programme)

could live on downloads and on demand if I had to. There is far to much crap spread over far to many channels not enough quality to much quantity

Once you are used to watching what you want, went you want to watch it going back to "live" TV is unthinkable.

Going forward I will always have a PVR.

On demand was down too.

But yes, downloads would be an option, push comes to shove

on demand is internet also not requiring a STB. If I download its in 720 or 1080 with 6 channel sound and often before its aired in the UK so its not push comes to shove its my main source of TV entertainment

Re: Could you live without your sky or virgin box?

I could get rid of it today, but if I did I think Mrs G would make sure a couple of other things went at the same time. As I want to keep all the bits I was born with then I suppose the Tivo will be staying .

Cheers

Grim

I could definitely live without Sky, Mr T has it in his room as he likes to watch a lot of Sport, I have Freeview in mine everyone's happy.

Re: Could you live without your sky or virgin box?

I got rid of aky in the end as I was just not watching anything. I do have a freesat box now but not really used that much either.

I could do without tv completely I don't think it would bother me.

I don't know if that's because of my circumstances or due to come other reason though, the other half would probably leave me if I didn't have a TV though

Re: Could you live without your sky or virgin box?

I rarely use mine as it is, the missus and kids use it a fair bit but i mostly just have everything i want to see automatically download and they get watched through XBMC whenever i get round to them. The majority of UK TV is either tripe or way behind the US so i find it a bit pointless.

Re: Could you live without your sky or virgin box?

We hardly watch any tv and what we do watch is on catch-up so iplayer etc even if it's via one of the games consoles is perfectly adequate.

In terms of football we usually go to at least all of the home games so no need to bother with Sly sports or anything like that. Used to have Cyfra+ and Tring+ cards as we have a motorised system outside but don't bother with it anymore.
