House of Cards (new US remake, available worldwide on Netflix)

Some of you may remember the BBC series House of Cards, broadcast back in 1990 and set after the end of Thatcher's time as PM. It was excellent.

Quote:
The antihero of House of Cards is a fictional Conservative Chief Whip, Francis Urquhart played by Ian Richardson. The plot follows his amoral and manipulative scheme to become leader of the governing party and Prime Minister.

There's now a US version, set in modern day America. Kevin Spacey plays the lead and is one of the executive producers, and the first two episodes were directed by David Fincher.

Quote:
The series will be set in modern times against the backdrop of electoral politics. It will feature Kevin Spacey as the main character. He will be playing Rep. Frank Underwood, a ruthless politician with his eye on the top job in Washington.
Netflix, wanting to move into original programming, actually out bid the "normal" US networks. It has ordered two seasons to start with, totalling 26 episodes.

In a first for broadcasting a new series, Netflix has made the entire first season available in one go, worldwide, rather than following the traditional method used by the normal networks of airing one episode per week.

The reviews are good, e.g.

I'm gunna watch the first episode in like 10mins. It's a nice change not having to wait a week or more for the next episode. From what I've read there's been good reviews so that is encouraging.

Yes this remake does look interesting but it will have to go some to match the original series.

I've watched the first six episodes so far.

It's very good, with some great performances. Definitely worth watching.

Just watched the first episode which I thought was pretty good overall , this Original content certainly seems the way to go for Netflix.
