Making TiVo the best PVR ever!

As you'll see over to the left I'm now a SKY customer. Whilst I'm enjoying my SKY experience I do miss the functionality of TiVo.

In 12 months time, when my contract expires with SKY, I would consider coming back to Virgin if they improve the channel line-up. I would also like to see a few tweaks and changes to TiVo.

1. Better apps such as Netflix, Lovefilm, BlinkBox etc...
2. TiVo actually recording movies as suggestions
3. TiVo recording HD varients of suggestions as a default setting
4. A built-in internet browser / internet app
5. 2tb hard drive model

If the above changes could be implemented, for me TiVo would become the perfect PVR.

What would you like to see tweaked to either keep you as a happy Virgin customer, or maybe temp you back to Virgin if you've recently left like me.

Indeed there is nothing wrong with those idea's Chad as it would put it the TiVo even further ahead of the other STB's.

Yep,it would be nice to see some of these come in the next update, but I have known TIVO pick up the odd movie in suggestions. I think I need to use the thumbs up and thumbs down more often with my movies to improve this feature. Not sure what I would like to be tweaked, I guess I would like the menus to be quicker to navigate through.

Re: Making TiVo the best PVR ever!

Even if the apps were better, I'm still not convinced I'd pay extra to subscribe to the likes of netflix, so that's not a deal breaker. In fact, none of the things you mention are, really. They'd merely be nice additions.

I would love to be able to view my TV via TiVo app on my Ipod touch. The TV Anywhere app I thought would be just that... how is it TV anywhere? Am I missing something?

A dynamic EPG would also be required imo . The lack of which can be extremly annoying so I am told.

Couldn't agree more TIVO already does the advanced very well its the core PVR functions that need improving like a dynamic EPG or an EPG with more frequent updates , my parents don't get many issues with the main channels however the EPG data for some of the smaller channels can be hit and miss , Christmas 24 being one that springs to mind on a few occasions they've recorded off this channel and had a completely different programme to that listed on the EPG.

Personally I find TV catch app up more useful than TV anywhere.

Re: Making TiVo the best PVR ever!

Improvements I can think of:

- Spawning 2 recordings off one tuner if two shows on on the same channel overlap as opposed to using 2 for the overlap period.

- Being able to filter out channels when creating a wishlist

- Better wording for clash management screens and "egg timer" messages. I now know how to decipher them but better wording would help those new to the box and help them get the best.

- Option to pass the video signal through to 3rd party hardware. I wouldn't use the option but I think it would give more flexibility for those that have invested in video processing hardware.

There is a limited list of streaming channels from ESPN to National Geographic on this app.

In a ideal world I would love to see these,as for improved channel line up I think we ain't gonna see much more than last year, can see possibility of Netflix and love film coming because it will be another chargeable asset and after this new price hike and still not seeing enough improvements to justify it.They seem to be squeezing as much out of current customers as they can rather than attracting new

Missing nothing mate, currently TV anywhere is a joke were ipad/iPod is concerned and they doesn't seem to be any urgency from vm to improve either

Re: Making TiVo the best PVR ever!

I like being able on the app to:

Quickly view programmes on the TV guide
Delete programmes from my shows
Check managed future recordings

The app is much more efficient than the TiVo remote as all above are on the IPad/iPod and not on the TV screen effecting your TV viewing!

Re: Making TiVo the best PVR ever!

"Only Sky customers can use Sky Go" Yeah great. Where is OUR "SKY GO"???
WE are ALL sky customers in one way, we just pay through VM. I really thinnk the "TV anywhere" app should be renamed, a bit misleading really. Maybe one day?

This is something I always wanted to do. For example set wishlists for BBC4 documentaries etc...

Another great feature would be multiple user accounts:

Actually, this would be a huge plus.

Add that and you'll just have people moaning that there is yet another button press before you get to a menu.
