IP Address keeps changing
Hi, my IP address has changed like 3 times in the past month and i don't know why. It's annoying because i can't have a stable tbb meter!
My old chart :
Current :
Actually quite jealous of the guy's connection who has my old IP address lol. My virgin media service is great always 30+mbs down, 3mbs+ upload. however the jitter/ping isn't what i would call great.. Typically is around 25ms, about 5 years ago i was using ADSL and could ping a guy from the Netherlands for 5-7ms. It made for a great gaming experience and it's a shame i don't have this availabe on VM.

Is it possible to use something like dyndns with the monitor? That way it doesnt matter if your IP keep changing.

That's interesting.
I just ran a speed test and, having looked at the history of previous tests, I noted with interest (and some astonishment) that my IP hasn't changed in a whole year
(The irony being that I wouldn't care if it had as I don't need a static IP for any reason!)

Re: IP Address keeps changing
I did read that virgin media assign an IP address to the MAC of your superhub and it's supposed to be static? That's why i'm wondering why mine keeps changing, i don't think it used to before...
@Jumping tbb meter is by IP address only unfortunately.

Re: IP Address keeps changing
VM IP addresses are fairly stable though not static.. Any work on the network (re-segmented UBR) or swapping from modem to router mode will change the IP, also in modem mode changing the router (or just its MAC) will also change the IP as well as turning it off for a major length of time.
To have a fixed IP you need a Virgin Media Business account

Re: IP Address keeps changing
sounds like VM keep resegmenting your area, I would expect this to be a good thing (means they trying to reduce load). Whilst in my area IP changes are extremely rare, I have had one forced one at this address on VM.

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention (but it is made clear in the screen shot!) that I only have their 10meg service, so no SHub here

Re: IP Address keeps changing
there isnt anything special about the shub. The only reason why the address of the shub is likely to change more often is because you can switch it between modem mode and routing mode which will force an address change. Everyone else using normal modems will always have a pretty much static address because their mac will never change.

Actually it's easier on a normal modem to change the IP as you can alter the routers mac address or if connected directly just spoof a new MAC.
The superhub in normal mode is nearly impossible to change the IP unless you leave it off for at very least a few days.. In modem mode then it's exactly the same as a normal modem in how to change the IP, but switching back to/from modem/router modes will only swap you between two IP's unless it's been the "few days" since you switched..
