It will basically integrate social media into the Sky+ app plus others I believe , also allowing you to change the channel via iPad/iPhone etc plus I read somewhere possibly android support also.
Could also be a nice little revenue earner for Sky

Social TV Startup Zeebox Seeks Impact With TV Campaign

One of the nascent social TV space’s most interesting new second-screen software services will this week court mainstream users with a nationwide TV advertising campaign, just as it targets broadcast partners with a new toolset.

Zeebox, an iOS app that augments live TV shows with interaction, show information and click-to-buy, will this Saturday air the first of 12,000 commercials on Sky and Viacom (NYSE: VIA) channels in the UK through March and April, in time for an upcoming new version with enhanced Twitter features, HD channel support and push notifications.

The airtime is part of the deal, worth more than £10 million, which Zeebox struck in January with BSkyB (NYSE: BSY), which involved funding, Sky Media selling ads inside Zeebox and Zeebox supplying its social service in to a next-generation Sky+ mobile EPG. Sky Media, Sky’s ad sales house, also sells ads for Viacom channels.

Zeebox to get live in-app video feed from Sky's Got to Dance final

Social TV app Zeebox will be getting a live in-app video feed during the final of Sky 1 HD's Got to Dance show when it airs on Sunday 4 March.
The feed won't be the show itself, but will instead be the winners of its 2011 series commentating on this year's finalists' performances. Zeebox is using Orca Digital's showcaster platform to deliver the video.
It's a big step forward for Zeebox, which until now has focused on getting its users to check in to the shows they're watching on TV, so they can see what other viewers are tweeting, and get contextual information on the programmes and their stars.
This is the first time the app has delivered a live video stream. It has been working with Sky throughout the Got to Dance series though, showing a feed of moderated comments from the show's studio "Social Wall", and providing iTunes links to buy songs that have featured.
"As we continue to find fresh ways of weaving social media interactivity into our shows, the Got To Dance Final presents a great opportunity to capitalise on the online buzz and excitement around who will steal Chris and Wes' crown through zeebox's engaging second screen technology," says Aidan Conway, head of digital entertainment at BSkyB.
"With the show simulcast on Sky 3D as well as Sky 1 HD alongside a comprehensive second screen experience, we're confident that this year's final will be the most immersive and interactive ever."
It is no surprise that BSkyB is the first partner for Zeebox for this new feature, given that it acquired a 10% stake in the startup in January 2012, just two months after its first app launched for Apple's iPad.
The interesting question with Got to Dance is whether viewers will be keen on watching two separate live video feeds –*the show itself on their main television, and the commentary feed on their mobile devices.

I really like Zeebox Infact I already use it and I'm really looking forward to the sky integration . But 1 thing I'm worried about is are sky going to put an extra £5 on our bills just to use the EPG like virgin do?

Just seen a Zeebox advert at half time in the Liverpool Arsenal game. No mention of the Sky element though.

I guess ZEEBOX intergration is Sky's answer to TiVo. An as it's not on the actual PVR there is no patent issue. I also think it not being on the box is a massive benefit as you don't have to access the planner therefore it doesn't interrupt viewing. Once fully inter grated into the Sky+ app so we can go straight to a show from zeebox it's going to be a TiVo beater.

I don't thi k sky want zeebox seen as exclusive. The idea MIGHT BE that users from all platforms get comfortable with Zeebox. Then they will want to go to sky as Zeebox is inter grated into sky's platform. Familiarity is something consumers love.

If they already no how to use zeebox an Infact are using it then coming to sky will be easy users will feel at home with zeebox on sky. If there friends are using it on facebook an talking about the extra features on sky that will encourage people to move to sky.

TiVo for example is on its own limited to VM ZEEBOX is already part of your Facebook and twitter, soon it will be part of how you not only watch but also control your sky tv. Very exciting times ahead.

Erm... Zeebox already controls my TiVo box. What are you talking about Sky having exclusiveness of it?

I said they don't want exclusiveness that's why they didn't buy a controlling stake. Just smaller investment an if it does take off then they do have an option to buy more A LOT MORE.

Zeebox adding 15,000 new users an hour thanks to TV ad campaign

Social TV app zeebox is adding as many as 15,000 new users every hour following the launch of a new TV ad campaign over the weekend.

The 30 second ad slots, which portray zeebox as TV’s new sidekick, debuted during Sky’s Premiership coverage before being rolled out across its primetime channels.

Zeebox co-founder and CEO Ernesto Schmitt tweeted the figures this morning:
