How to transfer recordings from TiVo

Hi, we just got a second TiVo, a 1TB. Our 500GB is now in our back room with some recordings on it, the 1TB is in our lounge.

I tried connecting an external HDD via the USB sockets (I tried both), but I got an error screen which told me that I couldn't add recording space that way, and had to use eSATA. The point is I didn't want to do that. I wanted to transfer files from the tiVo to the HDD, and then either transfer them to the other TiVo or burn a DVD on my PC, and watch them on a DVD player.

I do have another method. I have a SONY HDD/DVD recorder and could hook the TiVo up to that and record that way, but then I'm in real time and so would be a chore.

I could just watch the programmes in the back room, but it's not as comfortable as the lounge.

Am I missing something really obvious?

If there's no other way of doing this, I'll swap teh boxes back round until we've watched the recordings on the other box, but set the 1TB box to record new programmes, ready to swap them back again.

Re: How to transfer recordings from TiVo

By scart in real time unfortunately. But if it series if you set the whole series link to play it works well recording overnight. I did that when my first TiVo has a fault after a few days and we'd just recorded a weekend marathon of something I didn't want to lose

TiVo's will be able to share programmes via the Ethernet port and a home network, but the feature hasn't been activated yet.

Re: How to transfer recordings from TiVo

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll be hooking up the Sony soon then. At least it can be done, and at least they're working on TiVo sharing.
