VM customer special offer - any good?

https://shop.virginmedia.com/virgin-...-bonus-xl.html

Got an email offering us £8 pm off our monthly VM bill if we take a new mobile phone which means the missus can get a Samsung Galaxy Ace for £7.99 pm including: 75 mins, 250 txts, 500MB web and 3000 mins to VM mobs.

She's currently on PAYG (original) and spending an extra £5 pm month for mobile web. She'll save that £5 too obviously (500mb web will suffice) meaning that she'd be getting a new phone and all the above for £2.99 pm unless I've misunderstood something. We're all on and happy with Virgin Mobile but she now she's studying at college and will be needing to send more texts (currently 12p each on PAYG) so I reckon this is a pretty good deal. Any thoughts?

Cheers as always!

Thumbs down Re: VM customer special offer - any good?

I looked into this today, with the view of my wife having a Wildfire S (white), and me a Desire S, but for some weird reason, you can't have any tariffs you like that you see, with any other phone.

For example, the Wildfire is of similar spec/price to the Galaxy Ace, yet they won't do the Wildfire on the same deal as the Ace. Reason for not wanting the Ace is simply down to its lack of memory available for apps compared to the HTC (less memory = less apps, should you want more).

VM, need to be more flexible on their phone/tariff options.

I currently get 100mins, 250 texts & 500MB web for £10pm, and my wife gets 600mins, Unltd texts & 100MB web for £18.50 pm (we're both on O2), yet VM can't get close to those options.

That said, a friend of mine is perfectly happy with his Galaxy Ace for £7.99pm, I personally wanted something newer for starting a 2yr contract.

I got this for my dad:

http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/paymonth...aign=sams-gace

200 mins, 200 texts and 1gb internet for £12 per month with a free Samsung Galaxy Ace. (24 month contract). Talk mobile is owned by Carphonewarehouse and piggy backs on the Vodafone network.

Not a bad deal I think!

If you are after sim only, check out Tesco Mobile. It runs on the o2 network! http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mobile/sims/

Or giffgaff, again which runs on the o2 network: 250 mins, unlimited texts and also TRULY unlimited internet for £10 per month. http://giffgaff.com/
If you go on their forums and order a sim from someone's signature, you get a free sim WITH £5 credit!

So there are many alternatives to Virgin Mobile/Media!
