Some help setting up Superhub
My installation has been finished! (he called beforehand, arrived on time, he knew what he was doing so everything went well - 0 problems).
Just have a few questions about the modem
1. There is a 3db forward path attenuator attached to the modem - i know its to do with steadying the signal, but i heard that signals can
change overtime so i may not need it in the future. Does it have any adverse affects in regards to speed, downloads, gaming etc?
2. In the modem services page there are firewall features, passthroughs, multicast and flood detection enabled. Do i need these really?
3. Does everything look good down below?

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Your power levels are both a little high and a little low. down their high, the tech installed a 3db attenuator, imo he should of put in a 6. up is low, it might need looking at if your SH plays up.

also UPnP can be disabled too if you don't use it.

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Are you having any problems with your connection?
If the answers "no" then leave it alone

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
I would have put on a forward and reverse 10db attenuator but there the good side of unacceptable

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Unfortnatley im getting some issues now, been disconnected once and speedtest shows about 15mb. Downloads from steam were running at 100kb.
The downstream power has increased to:
8.8 dBmV 8.4 dBmV 8.1 dBmV
Will someone need to come back out again or can they solve issues like this from their end? Everything was going so well lol, a bit too well

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
when you log into your SuperHub and go advanced settings does the first page, status page state your on R30? Software Version ??? DON'T POST YOUR MAC!!
your up level is low which needs looking at. a down level adjustment will be done via a tech or you can buy an attenuator from ebay.

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Sorry to put some slightly conflicting advice your way - but here goes.
Your house would seem to be rather close to the street cabinet, which would account for the high DS power and low US. In these circumstances, your US power is fine.
Your DS power should come down, and it will rise further in winter as cable contracts and attenuation falls. IMO you would benefit from at leasta total of 10 dB forward path attenuation.
Alternatively, an engineer could move your tap to a higher overall attenuation point (as well as putting on a lower value FPA), and then your upstream power will rise accordingly.
BTW, you can buy a 10 dB FPA on ebay or wait for a VM engineer to come.

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Just spoke to support and after a reset/channel switch speed did go back up to normal.
However they said that the power levels seemed fine, no need to worry unless its over 12 or 13.
I'll see it how goes tonight and tomorrow, otherwise i'll ask for someone to come and resolve it.
Thanks for the advice.

Support is regularly wrong on these matters.
Anything above +7 is sub-optimal (mine stops working for all intents and purposes at 7.5)

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
just checked it again today and levels have dropped to 8.3, 7.7 and 7.4 (although they still move up and down a bit).
speedtest showed 48 down and 4.7 up which is great, but the graph underneath when testing was very shaky with lots of ups and downs, was not a steady speed.
pingtest showed jitter as 6 which seems ok, gave the connection an A.
looks ok for now, but it looked ok yesterday for a few hours too. i'll see how it goes

Re: Some help setting up Superhub
Those sort of level changes are normal on a day to day basis. In deep winter you'll find the downstream c. 3 dBmv higher and the upstream correspondingly lower.
A shaky graph might indicate some issue, but I would expect any power related cause to be reflected in events in the event log.

Any clues in the event log?
