WRT54G2 Port address translation

Hi,
Has anyone managed to get Port Address translation running on a wrt54g2 ? Linksys tech support have sent me to the port forwarding article which is not what I need........

(I'm trying to configure internet media streaming)

Thanks all

Re: WRT54G2 Port address translation

I don't understand why you want PAT when you have NAT as PAT is just an IP restricted NAT using ports instead of IP's.

Unless you explain more about what you're trying to do then you've got me stumped as to the reasons behind PAT

Re: WRT54G2 Port address translation

Internet media streaming in Win 7

Lets say it uses port 12345 externally when it hits the router I need it to forward to IP 192.168.1.103 but as port 54321 instead

Re: WRT54G2 Port address translation

That's port forwarding..

PAT is like NAT except instead of translating from IP to IP it translates from single external port to many internal ports on the same internal IP.

Port forwarding will take one external port and direct it to an internal IP at either the same port or to another port but not all routers (including the wrt54) will allow you to change the port number.

Can you not change the port in the software to use the same port as the incoming stream?

Re: WRT54G2 Port address translation

Even if you can't on the software or the router, Windows can do loopback port forwarding easily enough.
