Just got a new virgin sim but forgot my phones locked

I just got a new £5 sim only monthly deal from virginmobile. However I completely forgot that my phone is locked to orange. Im wondering what will happen if I dont activate my sim straight away because its going to take me a while to either buy a new phone or get it unlocked.

Re: Just got a new virgin sim but forgot my phones locked

Most Mobile sim cards on a pay monthly plan, including those issued by virgin normally have an expiry date of 90 days from the day of purchase in which they must be activated or will simply not work. Depending on the particular mobile handset you have, it is relatively straight forward to have your device unlocked. As long as your sim has been activated within the 90 day window, then you should be absolutely fine.

Hope this helps,
Thanks

Just take your phone to a local mobile store who should be able to unlock it for around £10.

Re: Just got a new virgin sim but forgot my phones locked

Wondering what happens about locks when "everything everywhere" is finalized?

With virgin being a virtual network on T-mobile, Virgin sims (were said to) work on T-Mobile locked phones.

Now the "everything everywhere" network will consist of ex-Orange and ex-T-Mobile equipment, so unless sims can have a dual personality, there will be problems crossing between the two sides.

Not sure if you can get the cheaper ones this way, but in-store at carphone warehouse, they did my last phone as a "virginmobile upgrade", which meant taking my current phone number, not having a sim with it, and not having to buy a topup - if you could get one of the really cheap alcatels that way....

The is no issue with Orange using T Mobiles network they just work which will be due to the firmware they send to the simcard which we have done with both of the Orange phones we own last year.
