New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Its a new Bush Digital set top box, a very cheap one like 25 pounds.

Aerial is all connected and scart connected all fine and it says this message No Services Currently Stored

I dont think this is a signal/aerial problem is it as it would say No signal if it was?

I have a digital indoor aerial with built in amplifier

Not sure what to do next

Thank you

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Thank you

We have done the 1st time installation option and tried re-scan channels if that is what you mean by tuning?

There is no store channels option anywhere

In the services menu there is only re-scan and 1st time install

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Normally the tuning sequence is automatically triggered when you plug in a new STB. The message could mean this has not happened, but it could also mean it has tried and hasn't found any of the freeview mux. Look at your instructions and force a manual retune/search. If you still have the same message then there is insufficent signal being received.

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Are you confident that your indoor aerial is getting a signal? Are you sure it's directed towards your nearest transmitter?

At nodrogd

Yes I have tried a force re-scan and same message comes up everytime, do you have any recommendation on what could be done with the aerial?

At LondonRoad

How would I go about locating my nearest transmitter?

This is the aerial I have got btw says up to 36 dB gain

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Put your postcode into the coverage predictor on Wolfbane's website and it will give you the location of your local freeview transmitters, distance & bearing. If you post the results here we can give you some advice.

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

To get a rough idea, have a look at where neighbours external aerials are pointing.

If you know your postcode you can get your nearest transmitter from here:
http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?DX=L&HT=10&OS=

beat me to it nod :-) Got distracted by a beer shouting on me from the fridge ;-)

That is results

Hope this helps does it mean i have to point in direction of Hannington?

And how would I "point" this aerial?

---------- Post added at 22:19 ---------- Previous post was at 22:16 ----------

Do you guys rekon it could be the freeview box itself maybe malfunction?

just what it says no services stored like they forgot to put something on the box or store something in it?

Re: New freeview box says "No Services Currently Stored"

Yes, your local TX is Hannington and all the local aerials should point in that direction. Can you get the aerial on a window sill, if it's not already. This may make the difference between getting a signal and not. The digital signal from Hannington is at a very low power compared to analogue, and will stay that way until switchover. Outdoor aerials will have no problems, but an indoor aerial ideally needs an unobstructed view toward the transmitter.

No services means the scan found no freeview mux of sufficient strength to decode. The only way to find if the box is working correctly is to plug it into a rooftop aerial that you know works. If you have a friendly neighbour that already has freeview, ask them if you could test your box on their aerial.
