WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

I have the Netgear WNR2000 router supplied by VM and for some reason the connection speed in Windows only reaches 65.0Mbps even when I'm in the same room as the router. The router is set to the default 'up to 125Mbps' but it remains the same speed even if I change it to 'Up to 300Mbps' I get full signal but no where near the full connection speed. I have a HP G62 laptop with a Broadcom 4313 8011b/g/n wireless adaptor if that helps. How do I get a higher connection speed?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

Switch the channel width to 40mhz in the wireless settings in the router config pages.

That should help, What's the interference like? Get inSSIDer and have a look at what channels are busiest.

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

I can't see where to change that? Have added a screenshot of the settings page. I'll have a look at that inSSIDer in a minute when I'm on my laptop.

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

Right, have just installed inSSIDer and there were a few on channel 1, 11 and 6 so have changed to channel 9 but still not acheiving above 65mbps. I don't think it's the wireless card because inSSIDer is showing a max rate of 130mbps and 300mbps for other routers but only 65mbps for mine. One of the 300mbps ones is a Netgear router too.

Yeah I have the latest drivers, have ran both Windows Update and HP Update but hasn't made a difference. Plus it's the same on different laptops with different adaptors, I still only get 65mbps on a laptop with an Intel wireless adaptor.

Generally you will want to stick with those standard channels as they are the three which don't overlap, I had strange performance issues when I switched to other channels. Just pick from 1 6 or 11 which has the least amount or weakest signal from other networks.

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

Right, Channel 1 seemed to have the least amount of networks and lowest signal so I changed to that and there is still no change in the connection speed. The netgear that is acheiving 300mbps seems to be using some form of channel bonding as it is using channel 2 and channel 6. Judging by the SSID it's a VM hub

It is using 40Mhz, I would tell you where to look for that option but I have never even had a netgear router never mind that model.

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

Right, I looked up the user manual for the router online and found that it apparently changes to 40Mhz when it's in Up to 300Mbps mode so I changed it and now it is showing up as 150Mbps max speed on inSSIDer (wrong) and Windows is still only showing that it's connected at 65Mbps

Re: WNR2000 only connecting at 65mbps

Well other networks are showing up as 300Mbps N on the list, and I am experiencing connectivity of only 65Mbps to my router on more than one laptop with different wireless cards
