wireless extender

I have a Netgear wireless G WGR614 router, one room in the house does not get a signal.

I have bought a Solwise PL-85PEW_MK2 PowerLine wireless extender, which I get an excellent signal strength on and can connect to, but it says there is no internet access. If the extender is connected to the router it works perfectly but as soon as i disconnect the cable I lose internet access again.

I have tried to get into the netgear router to see if there is anything that needs to be changed in the settings but the username (virgin) and password (password) are not recognised.

I'd be grateful for some advice.

Thanks

Re: wireless extender

The extender can only connect you to the internet if it is connected to the internet itself. You'll need a cable to connect it at the other end to the router, if you disconnect it you'll get no internet. Do you have another homeplug at the other end connected to the router? If so, what is it?

Re: wireless extender

i have a Peak powerline network adapter which worked fine when we used a powerline ethernet adapter with it, but i still get no internet access from the wireless adapter when it is connected to the router via the peak homeplug.

Re: wireless extender

Are you able to at least access your router's config pages from whatever you are connecting wirelessly to the homeplug?
