Increased world of warcraft latency

Over the past few days my wow latency has quadroupled over peak times. It seems to be a problem with the virgin media telia pipe. Any idea how this is meant to get fixed, is it VM or telia's fault?

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

Looks like a Telia problem according to my trace route, although I have to say my latency seems to be OK.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

There's a bandwidth bottleneck between VM's interconnect router at telecity London and the telia network that's causing the problems.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

Ive just been running pingplotter and at times it was shower ping spikes of up to or over 500ms, and at times up to 40% packet loss, all on the telia network it would appear, hops 8 and 9 if memory serves.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

I have just done some real world tests and confirmed that latency is no issue here in the world of Earth.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

Yep, in the real world at 1.20 in the morning the roads are fairly clear too.

However in game pings are two to three time higher in the evening (peak) than they are at 8 in the morning.

Testing at 6pm

Tracing route to europe.battle.net [213.248.106.200] over a maximum of 15 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms
2 22 ms 6 ms 6 ms
3 29 ms 7 ms 8 ms bagu-core-1a-ge-200-1538.network.virginmedia.net [80.5.161.77]
4 25 ms 15 ms 49 ms manc-bb-1a-as5-0.network.virginmedia.net [80.5.161.37]
5 16 ms 13 ms 31 ms brnt-bb-1b-ae1-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.163.86]
6 15 ms 39 ms 15 ms telc-ic-1-as0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.185.74]
7 70 ms 77 ms 65 ms ldn-b2-link.telia.net [213.248.100.97]
8 82 ms 67 ms 65 ms ldn-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.247.24]
9 82 ms 77 ms * hbg-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.254.4]
10 112 ms 93 ms 93 ms s-bb1-link.telia.net [213.248.64.29]
11 94 ms 93 ms 96 ms s-b1-link.telia.net [80.91.254.57]
12 95 ms 102 ms 103 ms s-hdn-i3-link.telia.net [80.91.249.69]

And :-

Ping statistics for 62.253.185.74: (Last VM hop)

Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 99, Lost = 1 (1% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 64ms, Average = 22ms

And :-

Ping statistics for 213.248.100.97: (First Telia hop)

Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 94, Lost = 6 (6% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 63ms, Maximum = 132ms, Average = 76ms

Indicates there is something awry worth investigating.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

Traffic engineering. VM stubbornly refusing to get more bandwidth to Telia as it costs money so they play games with moving traffic around the network to try and avoid saturating the link. Sometimes these games don't work.

Re: Increased world of warcraft latency

I have noticed the same problem in the last week or so but with the game 'Darkfall'
Am not happy at all, used to get 30-50ms now 100-300ms.
