Running cables

Hello everyone
This is my first post on this site
I would like to run cat5E cables to both my boys bedrooms but am not sure how many uses they have, how many different ways can they be terminated i know RJ45 is one and probably able to put them into banana plugs as well, but are there other uses.
If these cables were run to two bedrooms, from where would they start there journey i.e switch or hub and how many should i run to each room.
Many thanks

Murray

Re: Running cables

Hello and to the forums.

To be able to share an Internet connection you are going to need a router. Each ethernet cable will go from the router.
If you are finding that you need more than 8 ports then you may want to add a switch after the router.
Run one ethernet cable to each room. (More if you want extra sockets).

You can use ethernet for other uses such as phonelines, sending video signals and audio but they are best used for data.

If possible try and route your cables away from mains electricity cables.

Re: Running cables

thanks for the reply Halcyon
I have a router in my lounge at the moment currently supplied by sky but am having major issues with them in my opinion capping my bandwidth and are now not replying to emails so am thinking of switching to virgin.
does this work
cable from router to 3rd bedroom some type of switch with ports out to run cat5E to the bedrooms, would it be best to terminate at the wall with brush boxes.
Many thanks

Re: Running cables

Obvously by adding a switch in you are making your network a litle bigger than just having a router but that should work.
I would advise you to put wall mounted points as you don't want to run your cable all over the house and then realise it has broken the cable ends.
Always test your cable out as well before you run it all the way through your house.
