Exclamation OE not connecting to my server

Not sure if I've used the correct terminology in my thread title. To explain:

In the last couple of days every time my AVG email scanner scans for incoming mail, instead of just getting the normal 'Transferring #? messages' message, I'm getting this as well .... 'Connected to cpc 1-mfld 1-5-0-cust***.nott.cable.ntl.com

I have never seen this before and as I'm in Essex and should be connected to the Cambridge server, I don't understand why I'm connecting to another users server in Nottingham.

I do a whole system scan with AVG every night and nothing scary is showing up but connecting to a server in Nottingham can't be right .... help anyone?

Have you checked your server settings in your email client?

Thanks kymmy ... I had no idea that those numbers etc were able to identify me.

Hi Graham .... I'm afraid I have very little understanding or knowledge about the techy side of emails and am not sure where I'd find out what my server settings are in my email client.

I only know that in Firefox>Tools>Options>Advanced tab>Network tab>Settings the button No Proxy is ticked .... is that it or is it something in Outlook Express?
If its something in OE maybe you could tell me where to find it, although why should it have changed? I haven't done anything to change it.

Re: OE not connecting to my server

Yep, if you take that full line (though you have changed since then it seems) you can ping that line and the rDNS will give you the IP. With the IP a cloner could get your MAC address and clone your modem, hence we try to do everything in our power to stop the cloners and restrict rdns/IP and mac's being posted on the site

Re: OE not connecting to my server

I'm sorry folks but it seems I've not explained the problem very well.

At home, where I have this issue my usual IP always has and still DOES resolve to: cpc2-bsfd4-0-0-cust***.cmbg.cable.ntl.com
Admins/Mods will be able to see that from the IP linked to my first post.
(Currently IP will be different cos I'm posting from work)

The Notts connection details I quoted in my first post are not mine, they are someone elses but I am connecting to it when OE scans and receives emails.

Re: OE not connecting to my server

Just for additional information, I did a Malwarebytes scan yesterday and it came up clean.

Can someone please offer some help or explanation as to why my ISP is configured to the Cambridge server but my email scanner is connecting to 'someone' in Nottingham??
