Exclamation WRT54GL Linksys help!!!

Hi guys i'm new here, and looking for help as im about to rip my hair out!

I have a D-Link 2640R router which was given to me by Virgin Media to plug into my phone line (ADSL).

At my old house I was with virgin but we only had a MODEM. I bought a Linksys WRT54GL wifi router so i could go on the internet anywhere.

My problem is that, when I plug the ethernet from the Dlink to the 'internet' port on the Linksys they don't communicate, and i can't access the internet from the linksys wifi.

Basically, how would i go about getting the two to 'talk' to each other? I need exact settings as im not clued up about this.

Aprreciate your help.

Re: WRT54GL Linksys help!!!

I think you will find that the Linksys WRT54GL wifi router is for cable, as what was in your old house, the D-Link 2640R router is for adsl.

so you need a wifi router that works with adsl
I could be completely wrong of course, I quite often am

Re: WRT54GL Linksys help!!!

Can't you use the Dlink for wireless?

If you absolutely want to use the linksys, I think you will need to run the Dlink in Bridge mode, so it just acts as the modem, and the Linksys acts as the router. I do that with my speedtouch Bebox (wireless signal is pants on it) and a Linksys cable router. I don't know how you do it and the Dlink though.

Re: WRT54GL Linksys help!!!

Hmmm. I'm afraid I can't help you there. Getting the bebox in bridge mode was a bit of a nightmare, and I had to go on the Be forums for help. I'd start by seeing if there is anything in the manual on it.
