Problems in Warrington Area?

At around 18:20 tonight I started to get internet issues with some sites being impossible to access.

For instance I can't access:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/
http://www.google.com/

But I can get to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
http://discussions.apple.com/
http://www.engadget.com/
http://www.firstdirect.com/

If I try to Ping or do a Traceroute to the sites I can't access they get know where at all, the pings fail and traceroute just stalls at 10.93.144.1 it get no further.

I have rebooted router and modem. It can't be a local issue as many sites work fine when others do nothing at all.

Re: Problems in Warrington Area?

The problem has just resolved itself at 19:08, something strange somewhere in Virgin Media world!

---------- Post added at 19:15 ---------- Previous post was at 19:10 ----------

I spoke too soon.....

While I can now get to new.bbc.co.uk other sites are not accessible :-

www.firstdirect.com
www.ebay.co.uk
www.macuser.co.uk

While these are OK :-

store.apple.com/uk
www.abercrombie.co.uk
www.pocruises.com

It is all very hit and miss.

My Yahoo mail is also not working in my mail application, it cannot access the Yahoo mail server, and yet my other email accounts are working fine.

There appears to be a partial failure to find sites, maybe it is a DNS issue?

news.bbc.co.uk is also gone again now, what the hell is going on Virgin?
There is also a 10 minute wait on the customer service fault line!

Re: Problems in Warrington Area?

Here is an example of a bad and good traceroute.

Bad - www.macuser.co.uk

Traceroute has started…

traceroute to www.macuser.co.uk (212.100.242.152), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
1 10.0.1.1 (10.0.1.1) 7.600 ms 0.973 ms 0.924 ms
2 10.93.144.1 (10.93.144.1) 11.208 ms 29.428 ms 42.343 ms
3 * * *
4 * * *

It never completes.

Better - www.waterstones.com

Traceroute has started…

traceroute to www.waterstones.com (91.103.170.141), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
1 10.0.1.1 (10.0.1.1) 5.637 ms 0.944 ms 0.953 ms
2 10.93.144.1 (10.93.144.1) 34.796 ms 17.279 ms 16.696 ms
3 bagu-cam-1b-v146.network.virginmedia.net (80.5.167.157) 9.012 ms 11.862 ms 11.416 ms
4 bagu-core-1b-ae2-0.network.virginmedia.net (195.182.180.9) 7.617 ms 9.670 ms 9.355 ms
5 lee-bb-b-as4-0.network.virginmedia.net (80.5.161.157) 9.481 ms 9.908 ms 9.631 ms
6 lee-bb-a-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net (62.253.187.185) 46.263 ms 10.987 ms 20.166 ms
7 bre-bb-b-as2-0.network.virginmedia.net (213.105.175.26) 81.241 ms 40.749 ms 15.338 ms
8 telc-ic-1-as0-0.network.virginmedia.net (62.253.185.74) 24.610 ms 16.516 ms 35.490 ms
9 linx-2.router.demon.net (195.66.226.12) 32.409 ms 26.691 ms 24.398 ms
10 warr-inside-2-a3-0-0-s3.router.demon.net (194.70.97.182) 34.454 ms 34.277 ms 35.458 ms
11 no-dns-yet.convergencegroup.co.uk (88.151.222.178) 44.747 ms 37.836 ms 38.174 ms
12 91-103-168-41.no-dns-yet.syan.co.uk (91.103.168.41) 48.616 ms 60.727 ms 54.494 ms
13 91-103-168-53.no-dns-yet.syan.co.uk (91.103.168.53) 53.232 ms 55.362 ms 66.088 ms
14 * * *
15 * *

But as you can see it still fails to fully resolve. I'm also not sure what the no-dns-yet entries mean!

Pages sometimes load and other times don't. The most variable is news.bbc.co.uk it is on and off all the time at the moment.

Re: Problems in Warrington Area?

I've been getting an intermittent service all day. This morning Mailwasher kept bleating that it couldn't find the email server.
