6.4 MB/s down to 300 / 500 KB/s

Hey everyone!

I got 50mb broadband installed yesterday with a new black modem and router. I must say, I haven't had any problems or nothing with it. I get full speed (roughly 6.5 MB/s) on websites such as Microsoft, NVidia and Apple.

However, when I download games through torrent using a private tracker and seeds that are roughly between 1000 and 1500, I get full speed when I'm connected to roughly 50/ 60 seeds, but when the seeds increase to 90 to 120, my download speed seems to decrease.

I'm having no problems with my speed when I download from direct links but it's only with the torrent. Anyclue on why it's doing that?

My PC is fully optimized to support 50mb, as you can see I'm already getting full speed on big websites and I'm running on Windows7, which has no TCP/IP limit patch.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Try limiting the upload speed

The upload speed has always been set to 1 KB/s as I'm not really a fan of uploading.

Thats probably why. Torrents are a share to receive technology. The more you upload, the more you can download. Its only fair! Limit your upload to 50% of the maximum and try it again.

Not all torrents are like that though. The private tracker I'm using, I have a Leechers account, meaning I can download as much as I want without uploading and I have always used it. The problem only started when I got this new modem and router.

I download from torrents at full speed! but when I start to connect to more seeds, from 60 to 140, my download speed decreases. I think it may be the router?

With more people connecting of course your d/l speed is going to decrease.
They'll be using some of the seeders u/l speed that you were using :/

Try limiting the amount of connection from within your client.

Increase your upload to around 100Kb/s and see if that helps.

Re: 6.4 MB/s down to 300 / 500 KB/s

Disable SPI firewall on router, reduce connections from client, you're probably overwhelming the CPU and/or NAT table on the router.
