Broadband Advisor

Hello, im new to this site and new to virginmedia.
I am just wondering if anyone is or had problems with Broadband Advisor that comes with PC guard? My computer is not the best but it runs pretty good and ive never had problems until now.
Since i installed PC guard, my computer has had fits and crashed on me several times over a few days, and when i eventually do Ctrl Alt Delete, it says that Broadband Advisor is not responding, so by this i guess that the problem was this ridiculous program that i didnt even ask for and was not mentioned when i download PC guard, so in the start menu there was a section where i could stop it running, i dont know if this is permanent, but im hoping tomorrow would be a good day where all my work is lost because of the crash.
If it still continues then im removing PC guard altogether, I've had enough.

If anyone has any information on this and what else it could be, as i said, it all started since installing it, it would be appreciated. Also, any tips on good anti-virus/firewall Programs?

thanks x

Re: Broadband Advisor

All I can say is that I tried PC Guard when I first got Virginmedia as it was free and had nothing but problems with my PC crashing all the time. In the end I took it off and bought another anti virus and when that subscription ended I bought Norton Internet Security 2009 and have had no problems. Best thing is NIS 2009 does not hog your system resources.

My advice would be if you can buy Norton Internet Security 2009 asap as you can get a 3 computer license pretty cheap, useful if you have more than 1 computer, you can upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2010 when it is released.

Re: Broadband Advisor

Get AVAST, its free and does not slow your system. If your behind a router, dont worry so much about a firewall

Re: Broadband Advisor

Use anything you like and it will be an improvement on Pcguard.

Personally on XP I use Kerio PFW 2.1.5 and Free AVG.

Works for me.

I must add, I recently bought a vista notebook that has a trial of McAfee Security Suite pre-installed. I have heard a lot of negatives about McAfee but I must say that running it with all it's bells and whistles enabled it does not appear to slow the notebook and so far has given no problems whatsoever.

Everyone has their own personal opinion on anti virus software as an ex support agent for Dell and HP I too had little respect for Norton as it hogged resources but after participating in the trial of the pre release of NIS 2009 I was so impressed I bought it.

Maybe it's just me but I'm always suspicious of companies who provide Internet Security free. How do they make their money?
