New customer getting slow speed on 10meg Bradford 7 area

Hi,

Just signed up to VM on the 10meg service and am very disappointed with it. Been on it for 3 weeks and started off getting 2-3meg down 128k up speed mthe first week. The download speed has gone up and is now in the region of 5-7meg but that is the highest it has got. It varies a lot, one minute 4 meg, 10 mins later 5 meg, then 7, then back to 4 or less. The uplaod speed has been consistently low at 128k.

Seriously thinking of cancelling it as I still have 6 days of my 28 days to go.

Anyone else in Bradford 7 area getting rubbish speeds on 10meg? I used to get a consistent 2meg when I used to be on the 2 meg service 6 months back.

So how are you measuring the speed? Could be an innacurate test. try downloading 3 or 4 files simultaneously from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos/ and add up the transfer rates, it should equal about 1MB/sec.

TCP optimiser is also worth running.
