Re: 20MB Slowdowns

Yeah, tell me about it. I've been ringing VM for months and all i get is that everything seems fine. How can it when i'm getting slow speeds?. It just seems nobody gives a crap. After years with Blueyonder/VM i'm seriously thinking of changing provider.

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

I'm in Derbyshire and have noticed exactly the same today, I'm lucky to see 5mb from my usually very good 20mb service.

Gonna keep an eye on this as there is absolutely no point in paying full whack for 20mb if I can only get 5mb.

Your Downstream is fine but what about the Upstream.

You cannot be getting traffic managed as your upstream is correct for 20Mb.

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

Do you live in an area that has been upgraded to 50meg? If you're unsure you can use the Virginmedia online postcode checker to see if 50meg is available.

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

When did the problems start? Anywhere around the time of the 50meg upgrade? It could easily be related, I'd log a fault with them asap.

Your Upstream is fine so no problem there so the fault has to be elsewhere.

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

I'm getting anywhere from 1mbps to 5mbps (max) Download speed today....

I have the 20meg service and as the person mentioned earlier I have downloaded nothing in the last few days...

If you are thinking of moving to them from another ADSL service - DON'T!

In addition to that the helpdesk has put me on hold twice and I have been disconnected twice.

I'm going back to ADSL and getting a full refund from VM. They truly are hopeless...

Rubbish!

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

Yer i have no idea whats going on, but being limited to 5mbps for no specific reason it's a dam joke.
Not as if im one of these users who always hammers the connection.
But ADSL for me will be even slower due to the distance from exchange etc.

Ugh i hardly have time to phone virgin media and if they need to come into my house i aint booking a day off just to have them not turn up at the specific time etc.

Re: 20MB Slowdowns

They just admitted that there was an "equipment failiure" in my area - whatever that means. I am in the Tunbridge Wells area if that helps.

They just refunded me £10 for loss of service as i'm not getting the service I am paying for.

Maybe it's the upgrade to 50mbps as Ro52ben suggested. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days and see if it improves.

They should at least warm people of this sort of work but I guess they're relying on the majority who don't use it very much not even noticing.

It's amazing how much we rely on Internet access nowadays and it really sucks when it's not working.
