Access restrictions: What the freaking heck am I doing wrong?
Tearing my hair out here. I am going through the process of setting up access filters in my modem/router - a Linksys WAG345G. I've successfully added a p0rno filter, complete with a list of choice words that are to be spotted and blocked. It's working fine. The browser instantly returns a 'connection dropped' message.
However I am now trying to repeat the process for YouTube. (It's easier to block it at the router rather than OpenDNS, as we want to be able to turn the block off when our son's not using the computer).
However it won't block by URL or by keyword. The attachment is a PDF of the relevant page from the router setup. The contents of the 'edit list of PCs' button is identical to the one created for the 'No Porn' filter. I can't think of a reason why it works for one but not the other. Am I missing something horribly obvious here?

It seems to, but then I just added *youtube* to the blocking-by-keyword list, but it didn't make a difference. If I google the word porn, I get the results I want; if I google youtube, I get a page of results for youtube.

I found this: http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/bo...message.id=953
Post 8.
Have you tried adding youtube to the list in the porn blocking area? Just to see if it's a firmware problem only being able to enable the policy on a couple of entries?

Have you tried disabling the pr0n filter first?
I noticed a similar thing on a friends Netgear router. If I enabled one policy, it seemed to diasable the others. I never managed to fix it so we had to go all or nothing and add all the filters in one policy.

Re: Access restrictions: What the freaking heck am I doing wrong?
Curiouser and curiouser - I have just added 'youtube' to the list of filtered words in the access policy containing all the porno stuff. And it works. It's fine as a workaround, but I still don't get what's going on here? And I don't especially want to have to bring up all the sordid details contained in the porn filter every time I want to unblock Youtube.
Thoroughly confused.

Yeah, i just edited my post for that. It may be a firmware issue, can you do a backup, upgrade and re install? Or is it the latest version?

Re: Access restrictions: What the freaking heck am I doing wrong?
Chris - Try disabling policy that you have for "porn" and enable the one for youtube specifically, to see if they only work using policy 1 (porn). If so it could just be that it works in a specific order (ie use pol1 to ALLOW and pol2,3,4 etc to block specific things)?

Re: Access restrictions: What the freaking heck am I doing wrong?
I'll give that a go haydn.
Actually I'm starting a live chat with Linksys now, to try to identify the correct firmware. I can see it's not up to date but on the other hand the download page is very obscure about which update to download (annex A or annex B, without any clue on the page or on the unit itself about which would be correct).

I'd imagine it would say something on the bottom.
---------- Post added at 14:04 ---------- Previous post was at 14:02 ----------
So (E1 and DE) would be annex b. Maybe on the model number somewhere?
