No ADSL light on new Billion Router

I've been using my hard wired modem (speed touch) for the last few years with no problems. I've just bought a Billion router 5200 r4 and set it up.

I've set it up as per the instructions (fairly straight forward, I know, but wanted to double check). but I cannot get a connection. I get the LAN cable unplugged message. Looking at the router, I can see that the ADSL lamp is not lit. It doesn't even flash.

I've tried everthing but cannot sort it out. My ISP is Nildram.

My wireless laptop can find the connection, but it has limited or no connectivity.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks, Karl

Forgot to mention....

When I plug the old modem back in, I'm connected again. So it's not the wiring to the router (eg filters & ethernet cables etc).

Its leading me to suspect the router is faulty.

Thanks

Re: No ADSL light on new Billion Router

as you suspect it sounds as though the router is faulty, does the router have more than one LAN port?

Have you set user and password on the router correctly? as you will not get the adsl lamp lit unless its authenticated i.e connected to internet.

That, Smee, depends on the router

Re: No ADSL light on new Billion Router

this is what all the lights mean on this router:

LED
Meaning
1. PPP : Lit steady when there is a PPPoA / PPPoE connection.
2. ADSL: Lit when successfully connected to an ADSL DSLAM (“linesync”).
3. LAN Port
1-4: Lit when connected to an Ethernet device. Green for 100Mbps; Orange for 10Mbps. Blinking when data is Transmitted / Received.
4. WLAN:
(5200G only) Lit green when the wireless connection is established. Flashes when sending/receiving data.
5. SYS : Lit when the system is ready.
6. PWR : Lit when power is ON
