50MB issues in the Midlands?

Just recieved my new black router and dongle this morning, got everything set up but i still found i was only getting around 17-18mb of wifi, so i rang up VM and after speaking to a nice guy in the 50mb department, he said there was a problem with the 'UMBR'? (is that right)

But anyway he said that was sruggling and thats why im not getting my full 50mb.

So i thought i would ask to see if anyone else is having problems in the West Midlands area? (wolverhampton)

How fast is it via wired connection, and did he mention SNR / Signal to Noise to you on the call?

Hi Broadbandings..

yes he did, he said a had alot of noise on my line, i asked where abouts it would be, between me and the green box outside, or between the green box and the exchange, and he said it was more likely to be at the exchange, he didnt give a ETA.

But atm i cant even watch a 48 second vid on youtube, it took me over3 mins to download 569kb file!

EDIT: my wired connected isnt working due to my nic being faulty, i asked him if i would get the full 50mb via wifi and he said yes i would be able to

from what you have seen and know about my problem, is it more likely to be a network issue rather than my setup?

surely i should be getting more than 17mb on a wifi connection with both N router, and a N usb donge?

Ive just spoken to VM again, and the ticket was updated at around 4pm this evening, the enginner couldnt find any fault at his end, but he has now forwarded it to 'headend', looks like its going to be a few more days.

On a side note i think some work got done as my last line speed test shot all the way up to 17mb and stayed there.. the tests i ran this afternoon where all over the place.
