Netgear wnr 2000

Hi there - some help would be appreciated with Router problem. I am installing Netgear WNR2000 and have a NTL250 Modem and 20mb service.
There is a DNS issue as no matter what url i try to ping it doesnt resolve the name and will default to pinging 192 168 1.1
All connection lights on router and modem are correct. Is there a conflict between the router and modem ?? Is this router compatible with the modem.

Did you turn the modem off when you connected the router? The modem needs to be power cycled to recognise new equipment

Re: Netgear wnr 2000

Yep - turned modem off - followed all the instructions and did everything in correct order - cannot run a ping on anything other than ip address mentioned above and so cannot connect to internet. Have now gone back to my old Linksys and everything fine. Only decided to buy new router cos kept losing connection and got fed up with having to reboot router. Thought a nice new superfast router would help !!!!!
