Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Hi cable forum

So heres the problem
My ethernet connection on my sweex router works with 2 computers. The problem i have is with the wireless part of the router.
I cant seem to get it to work.
In the past ive tried to connect my psp to the wireless. It connects but doesnt give me Internet access. I just ignored it because it wasnt necessary, but now im getting a new laptop and i want it to work lol.

Could anyone suggest any settings and stuff i need to change to get it to work?

Or i read that you cant connect with wires and cables. Is that true =/?

Thanks
Rossy

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Rossy, it will work both wirelessly and wired at the same time. Could it be interference? Make sure your router isn't right next to a TV or monitor, that can cause big problems.
Is it definitely connecting? Do you have to enter a password to connect?

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Thanks for the speedy reply. yea i put a wep password on it, i put it on incase someone was accessing it while i couldnt even use it lol. its not near a tv or monitor really. I just tried to connect and now its saying wireless access point not detected, even though it finds it in the scan. I hate this router lol

oh I could add some screen shots if you tell me stuff that could be wrong

Thanks

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Are you getting an IP address from the router? Go to a command prompt and type ipconfig. What is your IP address? Also, what does it say your default gateway is? Can you ping your default gateway (from a command prompt type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the x's are your default gateway address)? That will tell you if the link between your laptop and LAN side of your router is working. If that works, try pinging 74.125.79.103. It's the IP address of google. Does that work?

It could be a fault with the router. It MAY be fixed by installing the latest firmware for your router. I think it unlikely that it is a problem with both your laptop AND your PSP.

Also try changing the channel that the wireless is working on from the router's control panel

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Didn't realise you didn't have the laptop yet. You don't have MAC filtering enabled in the wireless settings do you? That will stop internet from working unless you have the MAC address of the PSP entered in the router.

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Rossy, according to the second screenshot you don't have WEP enabled. Can you check in your PSP that you are connecting to SSID "Sweex LW055"? With the settings in the second screenshot it shouldn't ask you for any WEP password because the security is set to none.

Some interesting stuff on this page:-

Seems you're not alone with having problems with the wifi on this router!

Re: Wired Connects but theres no wireless internet

Was just wondering if you have the DHCP server enabled on the LAN set up screen?

If not, then enable it, then get the MAC addresses of your computers, PSP and then add them into the DHCP IP Address Reserving table.

Then on the 'wireless' settings, on the 'filter list' page, ensure that 'Enable Wireless Access Control' is not enabled or if it is, then ensure that all the MAC addresses of items you wish to connect wirelessly are added in the table and that 'Defined items in MAC list are PERMITTED to connect AP, others are DENIED' is selected.

Hope this helps
